How does TCCNS course numbering work?

The four-character course prefix designates the course subject or academic discipline.

The four-digit course number is broken down as follows:

  • First digit: denotes the academic level of the course
    • 0 = sub-freshman
    • 1 = freshman
    • 2 = sophomore
    • 3 = junior
    • 4 = senior
    • 5 = graduate (master’s)
    • 6 = graduate (doctoral)
  • Second digit: denotes the number of credit hours (examples below).
    • Variable credit hour courses will display the lowest credit hour (i.e. for 1-3 credit hour courses, the second digit will be 1). Transcripts will accurately reflect the number of credit hours earned/attempted based on registration.
    • 0 = 0 credit hours
    • 1 = 1 credit hours
    • 2 = 2 credit hours
    • 3 = 3 credit hours
  • Third and fourth digit: establish course sequencing and/or distinguish the course from other courses of the same level, credit value, and prefix.
