Stephen F. Austin State University’s Information Technology Services is implementing a phased update to network storage solutions for faculty, staff, and students. These updates are part of our ongoing efforts to improve performance, reliability, and data security.

The first phase focuses on the Z drive, a secure, on-premise storage solution backed by a comprehensive backup schedule. Here’s what you can expect this summer:

  • All students, faculty, and staff will automatically receive a personal Z drive upon joining the University.
  • Z drives will be mapped automatically for users logging into any Windows workstation.
  • Existing Z drives (employees) and J drives (students) will be consolidated and moved to a new network location.
  • A personalized notification will be sent with the scheduled date of your Z drive migration.
  • OneDrive and other cloud storage options will not be affected by this change.

Z drives are ideal for storing homework assignments, personal notes, and individual work-related documents. For files shared across departments or teams, options such as department common drives, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint are available.

Please note: Changes to departmental common drives will occur in a later phase, scheduled for later this year. Additional details and time lines will be communicated in advance.
