Using Duo Verified Push

Quick Overview
  • Duo Verified Push is SFA’s primary authentication method
  • Uses number matching to prevent phishing attacks
  • Requires the Duo Mobile app on your device

Duo Verified Push is the primary method used at Stephen F. Austin State University to verify your identity during login. It provides stronger protection than traditional push approvals by requiring number matching.

This ensures that even if your password is compromised, an attacker cannot approve a login without access to your device.

How Duo Verified Push Works

  1. Sign in using your SFA username and password.
  2. A three-digit number appears on your screen.
  3. You receive a push notification in the Duo Mobile app.
  4. Select the matching number to approve the login.

Why Number Matching Is Important

Traditional push approvals can be abused if users approve requests they did not initiate. Verified Push prevents this by requiring a visible confirmation step.

Security Benefit:
Even if someone knows your password, they cannot approve a login without seeing the number displayed on your screen.
Important:
Only approve Duo requests that you personally initiate. If you receive a push notification you were not expecting, do not approve it.
