What to Do If You Receive an Unexpected Duo Prompt

Do NOT approve unexpected Duo requests.
An unexpected Duo prompt may indicate that someone else is attempting to access your account.

If you receive a Duo authentication request that you did not initiate, it is important to take immediate action. Approving an unexpected request could allow unauthorized access to your account.

What an Unexpected Prompt May Indicate

  • Your password may have been compromised
  • You may have entered your credentials into a phishing website
  • An attacker may be attempting to guess or reuse your password

What You Should Do Immediately

  1. Do not approve the request.
  2. Deny or ignore the Duo prompt.
  3. Change your SFA password as soon as possible.
  4. Contact the IT Help Desk to report the incident.

Why Verified Push Helps Protect You

Duo Verified Push uses number matching to prevent accidental approvals. If you did not initiate the login, you will not see the matching number on your screen.

Remember:
If the numbers do not match — or you were not logging in — do not approve the request.

When to Contact the IT Help Desk

Contact the IT Help Desk immediately if:

  • You receive repeated unexpected Duo prompts
  • You accidentally approved a request you did not initiate
  • You suspect your account has been compromised
