Installing the Browser Extension & Turning On Autofill
Quick Overview
- The browser extension is what lets 1Password fill and save passwords as you browse.
- Applies to all Faculty and Staff after they've activated their 1Password account.
- Requires an active 1Password account (see Setting Up Your 1Password Account).
- Installation steps differ slightly by browser. Expand your browser below.
Once the extension is installed and signed in, 1Password can autofill your saved logins on websites, generate strong passwords when you create new accounts, and automatically offer to save new or updated passwords as you use them.
Install by Browser
Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge Most common on SFA-managed computers ⌄
- Go to the Chrome Web Store (or Edge Add-ons store) and search for "1Password extension," or visit 1password.com/downloads.
- Select Add to Chrome (or Get for Edge) and confirm the install.
- Select the 1Password icon in your browser toolbar and select Sign in with SFACAS.
- Authenticate with your SFA username and password, then unlock the extension going forward with Windows Hello or your device PIN if offered.
Mozilla Firefox ⌄
- Go to Firefox Add-ons and search for "1Password," or visit 1password.com/downloads.
- Select Add to Firefox and confirm the install.
- Select the 1Password icon in your toolbar and select Sign in with SFACAS.
- Authenticate with your SFA username and password to finish linking the extension.
Safari (Mac) ⌄
- Install the 1Password app for Mac from 1password.com/downloads (Safari integration is built into the desktop app).
- Open Safari > Settings > Extensions and turn on the 1Password extension.
- Select the 1Password icon in the Safari toolbar and select Sign in with SFACAS.
- Authenticate with your SFA username and password, then unlock going forward with Touch ID if offered.
Turn On Autofill & Autosave
- Open and unlock 1Password in your browser.
- Select the account menu in the top-left corner of the extension pop-up and choose Settings.
- Select Autofill & Save and make sure automatic saving and filling are turned on.
- Visit a saved login and confirm the 1Password icon appears in the username/password fields, ready to fill.

Tip
If 1Password ever stops offering to autofill, first make sure your browser's own built-in password manager is turned off. The two can conflict.
