Setting Up 1Password on Your Mobile Device

Quick Overview
  • Get 1Password on your phone or tablet so your passwords are with you everywhere.
  • Applies to Faculty and Staff on iOS (iPhone/iPad) or Android devices.
  • Requires an active 1Password account (see Setting Up Your 1Password Account).
  • Enabling autofill on mobile lets 1Password fill logins in apps, not just your browser.

Once your account is active, install 1Password on your phone or tablet so it can autofill passwords, passkeys, and other saved items in both apps and mobile browsers.

iPhone & iPad (iOS)

  1. Download 1Password from the App Store.
  2. Open the app, select Sign in with SFACAS, and authenticate with your SFA username and password.
  3. Set up Face ID or Touch ID for quicker future unlocks.
  4. Open the iOS Settings app and go to General > AutoFill & Passwords.
  5. Turn on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys, then turn on the toggle for 1Password.
  6. Optional: turn off Passwords on the same screen so the built-in iOS password manager doesn't compete with 1Password.
  7. Test it by opening a saved site or app. You should see 1Password suggest the login above your keyboard.

Android

  1. Download 1Password from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app, select Sign in with SFACAS, and authenticate with your SFA username and password.
  3. Enable fingerprint or face unlock if your device supports it.
  4. Tap your account picture in the top right of the 1Password app, then select Settings > Autofill.
  5. Select Open Settings, then choose 1Password from the list of autofill services on your device.
  6. Optional: turn on Show filling suggestions to see 1Password suggestions above the keyboard or in a dropdown.
  7. Test it by opening a saved site or app to confirm 1Password offers to fill the login.
i
Tip
Using Chrome or Brave on Android? Open the browser, tap the three-dot menu, select Settings > Autofill services > Autofill using another service, choose 1Password, and restart the browser for it to take effect.
i
Tip
On a personal device, you can also sign in to your free 1Password Families account alongside your SFA account. 1Password keeps the two sets of vaults separate.
!
Important
Keep your device's screen lock (PIN, passcode, or biometric) enabled. It's an extra layer of protection for the 1Password app on your phone.
