Faculty FAQ for Staff Evaluations
What is changing?
Annual and probationary staff evaluations are transitioning from paper-based forms to NEOED Perform, the university's electronic performance management system platform. Supervisors will complete and submit evaluations electronically through the system.
Why is the university moving to Perform?
To create a more consistent, efficient, and streamlined evaluation process with electronic workflows and centralized records.
What are the benefits of Perform?
Electronic forms, automated reminders, streamlined workflows, improved record retention, and centralized access.
When will probationary staff evaluations be completed in NEOED Perform?
Beginning November 1, 2026, probationary evaluations that are due on or after that date will be completed in Perform. Supervisors will use the system to initiate, complete, and submit probationary evaluations electronically.
When are annual staff evaluations due?
Annual staff evaluations must be completed in Perform by January 31, 2027. This includes all required evaluation steps, supervisor reviews, approvals, signatures, and any self-evaluations required by the supervisor.
Employees and supervisors will receive notifications and reminders through Perform to help ensure evaluations are completed by the deadline.
Important: Supervisors are responsible for monitoring the progress of evaluations and ensuring all assigned evaluations are completed and submitted by January 31, 2027.
Who will use Perform?
Staff employees and those responsible for evaluating staff employees, including faculty who supervise staff.
Will faculty be evaluated in Perform?
No. The implementation applies to annual and probationary staff evaluations. Current Faculty evaluation processes are not changing.
I supervise staff employees. What will I need to do?
Complete annual and/or probationary staff evaluations in Perform rather than using paper forms.
How will I access Perform?
To access Perform, log in to mySFA and navigate to: Employee → Access NEOED → Performance
From there, you will be able to complete evaluation-related activities.
Will training be available for supervisors and employees?
Yes. All employees will be enrolled in an optional overview course through NEOED Learn to help familiarize them with Perform and its features.
All supervisors will also be enrolled in an optional, but highly recommended, overview course through NEOED Learn to help familiarize themselves with Perform and its features. In addition, supervisors will receive separate communications regarding training opportunities, evaluation workflows, timelines, and system expectations.
Human Resources will also provide guides, resources, and ongoing support to assist employees and supervisors throughout the implementation and evaluation process.
Will staff complete self-evaluations during the annual staff evaluation?
Yes. Employees will have the opportunity to complete a self-evaluation directly in Perform.
Can supervisors require employees to complete a self-evaluation during the annual staff evaluation?
Yes. While self-evaluations are optional by default, supervisors may choose to make them a required part of the evaluation process for their employees. If a supervisor makes the self-evaluation required, employees will be expected to complete it in Perform within the timeframe established by their department.
What are journal entries?
Journal entries are notes employees and supervisors can create throughout the year to document accomplishments, completed projects, goals, professional development activities, and other information that may be helpful during the evaluation process.
Are journal entries required?
No. Supervisors and employees can use journal entries throughout the year to document employee accomplishments, coaching conversations, achievements, and other performance-related information.
Who can see my journal entries?
Journal entries are private by default. If no visibility options are selected, only the employee who entered the information can view the entry. An employee may choose to share a journal entry with themselves, the employee's direct manager(s), and/or the manager's manager by selecting the applicable visibility options when creating the entry.
When will additional information be shared?
Supervisor training sessions will be available throughout November and December. Employees with direct reports will receive separate communication with registration details.
Important Note for Supervisors
Supervisors should not conduct evaluation meetings until ratings, comments, and any required approvals have been completed. Evaluation meetings are intended to discuss a finalized evaluation, answer questions, and establish goals and expectations for the upcoming year.
