What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows computers or networks to connect securely over the internet by extending a private network connection. In everyday terms, a VPN is software that encrypts your connection and enables secure remote access.
SFA’s VPN software is called GlobalProtect. VPN allows remote access to resources and services that are normally available only from on-campus workstations.

GlobalProtect Setup (Windows / macOS)
- Uninstall or completely remove any previous VPN software. This includes SFA’s prior VPN client, Junos Pulse.
- Go to https://vpn.sfasu.edu and sign in with your mySFA credentials.
- Download the GlobalProtect Agent for your operating system.
Windows users: If you are unsure whether your device is 32-bit or 64-bit, open Settings > System > About and look for System type.
- Run the installer. Click Next through the prompts, select Yes to allow changes, then click Close.
- Open GlobalProtect. For the portal address, enter vpn.sfasu.edu, then click Connect.
- Sign in using your mySFA username and password.
- Approve the Duo request on your smartphone to complete the login.
Note: A Duo push may not appear automatically. If you do not see a Duo request, open the Duo Mobile app manually. The request expires quickly, so you may need to sign in again to trigger another prompt.
When connected, you will see the Connected status/icon in your system tray.
