Coursera Account Creation Instructions - Student

Thanks to funding from the University of Texas System, all students have free access to Coursera Career Academy, a suite of 40+ certifications (made up of more than 300 short courses) taught by leading companies like Google, IBM, and Meta.

Follow these steps to create your Coursera Career Academy account:

  1. If you are accessing Coursera Career Academy from mySFA:
    1. Go to mysfa.sfasu.edu and login.
    2. On the Home tab under the Student Training heading, click Coursera Career Academy.
    3. You will arrive at the Career Academy – Students page.
    4. Click Join.
    5. Click Sign Up.
    6. In the Full Name box, type your first and last name.
    7. In the Email box, type your @jacks.sfasu.edu email address. (You must use your SFA email address. Accounts created for addresses other than @jacks.sfasu.edu addresses will be removed.)
    8. In the Password box, type your desired password.
    9. Click Join for Free.
    10. Follow additional prompts.
    11. You can now browse the Career Academy offerings. Identify the Career Academy course you’d like to take and click Enroll.
  2. If you are accessing Coursera Career Academy from a link in a Brightspace course:
    1. Click the appropriate link provided in the course.
    2. Click Join.
    3. Click Sign Up.
    4. In the Full Name box, type your first and last name.
    5. In the Email box, type your @jacks.sfasu.edu email address. (You must use your SFA email address. Accounts created for addresses other than @jacks.sfasu.edu addresses will be removed.)
    6. In the Password box, type your desired password.
    7. Click Join for Free.
    8. You should now arrive at your desired destination. If not, return to Brightspace and click the link again.

The only Coursera courses included in the SFA license (and thus available for free) are those in Career Academy. As you navigate in Coursera, take care to register for Career Academy courses. (You are welcome to take other courses, but their costs are not included in SFA’s license.)
