Duo Enrollment Guide

This article provides instructions for enrolling in Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using the Duo Universal Prompt. During enrollment, you will set up the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or tablet to verify login attempts.

Important
During initial enrollment, Duo Mobile is required. If you do not have access to a smartphone or tablet, contact the IT Help Desk before starting enrollment.

What You Need Before You Start

  • A smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android)
  • Internet access (Wi-Fi or cellular)
  • Ability to install the Duo Mobile app
  • Your mySFA username and password

When You Will Be Prompted to Enroll

You will be prompted to enroll the first time you sign in to an SFA system that requires multi-factor authentication, such as mySFA, email, D2L, or other protected services.

Enrollment Steps

Step 1: Start Duo Setup

  1. Go to https://mysfa.sfasu.edu and sign in with your mySFA username and password.
  2. When you see the enrollment welcome message, select Get Started.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to begin setup.

Step 2: Select Duo Mobile

  1. Select Duo Mobile.
  2. Enter your phone number if you are using a phone, or select I have a tablet if you are using a tablet.
  3. Select Continue.
  4. Confirm your phone number and select Yes, it’s correct.

Step 3: Install Duo Mobile

If Duo Mobile is not already installed on your device, install it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), then return to your browser and select Next.

Tip
You may be asked for your device passcode or app store credentials when installing Duo Mobile.

Step 4: Activate Duo Mobile

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app and select Continue.
  2. Select Use a QR code.
  3. Scan the QR code displayed in your browser.
  4. When prompted, confirm the account and select Save.
  5. Return to your browser and select Continue to finish enrollment.

You may be asked to allow Duo Mobile to use your camera so it can scan the QR code.

The QR code shown in screenshots is for demonstration only. Do not scan screenshots. Scan the QR code displayed on your own screen during enrollment.

Step 5: Complete Login with Verified Push

  1. Select Log in with Duo.
  2. A three-digit number will appear on your screen.
  3. Open Duo Mobile and select the matching number.
  4. Select Verify to finish signing in.

Security Reminder
Only approve Duo requests you initiate. If you receive an unexpected Duo prompt, do not approve it and contact the IT Help Desk.

After Enrollment

After enrollment is complete, most users will continue authenticating with Duo Verified Push. If you cannot use Duo Mobile, SFA can issue a Duo hardware token when needed.

If you need to change your phone number, reactivate Duo Mobile, or you no longer have access to your enrolled device, contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
