Proofpoint Email Protection

SFA uses Proofpoint Email Protection to help secure and control inbound and outbound email for faculty, staff, and students. Proofpoint utilizes machine learning and multilayered detection techniques to identify and block malicious emails, such as phishing, malware, or spam.

Proofpoint’s filtering is always active. The only way you’ll typically interact with Proofpoint is via End User Digest emails. These are emails sent periodically to notify you when you have a message in quarantine that you may wish to act upon.

End User Digest emails will look something like this:

Example of a Proofpoint End User Digest

The quarantined email(s) will appear in a table near the bottom of the message. You’ll also find several actions you’re able to take linked out to the right of each email.

  • Release – Sends the email to your inbox.
  • Release and Allow Sender – Sends the email to your inbox. Updates your filter settings to prevent further emails from this sender from being quarantined.
  • Block Sender – Updates your filter settings to automatically delete emails from this sender without entering quarantine.
  • Delete – Deletes the selected email.
  • Not Spam – Releases the email to your inbox. Updates filter settings to avoid flagging similar emails in the future.
