How to connect devices to SFA-Wireless

How do I connect to SFA-Wireless

Getting your computer, smart phone or gaming console connected to SFA-Wireless is a straightforward process. It involves two steps - connecting to the SFA-Wireless wifi network and then registering the device.  The following instructions outline that two step process for a variety of devices.

If this process fails for you please call us at 936-468-HELP (4357) or bring your device to the Help Desk in the Steen Library and we will assist you there.

Smartphones

  1. Turn off mobile data, then connect the smartphone to the SFA-WIRELESS network and enter the password “golumberjacks” without quotes when prompted. You won’t have internet access until the device is registered, even though it’s connected.
  2. Open your phone’s web browser and navigate to https://saturn.sfasu.edu/registration/index-registration.jsp
  3. You may encounter an error page at this point. If so, look for wording near the bottom of the page that says something like “Advanced” or “More Info”. This should open more text on the page, which should end in a link to proceed to the page. Give any permission required to do so and proceed.
  4. Your browser will redirect you to the SFA Network Registration page. Accept the terms, click on the “Users” option, and fill in the required information, then click “Login”.
  5. If registration was successful, you’ll see a progress bar fill up over 45 seconds. Once it completes, close your browser, re-open it, and you’ll have internet access.

Laptops & Desktops

  1. Connect to the SFA-WIRELESS network and enter the password “golumberjacks” without quotes when prompted, or plug in your ethernet cable. If you choose to use a wired connection, disable your wireless connection first. You computer may inform you that your connection is limited or may require sign-in. This is normal.
  2. Open your web browser and navigate to www.go.com.

Video Game Consoles & Smart TVs

  1. Connect the device to SFA-WIRELESS and enter the password “golumberjacks” without quotes when prompted, or plug in your ethernet cable. If you choose to use a wired connection, disable your wireless connection first. Your device may inform you that it has a network connection but no internet access. This is normal.
  2. Navigate to the system or network information on your device. The location of this info will vary between devices, but you’re looking for a MAC address or Physical Address (they’re the same thing). Make a note of this address.
  3. From a laptop or desktop computer that’s already registered, navigate to the registration page: https://saturn.sfasu.edu/registration/index-registration.jsp
  4. Accept the terms and select the option labeled “Video Game Consoles & Devices Without Browsers”, and fill in the required information on the next page, then click “Login”.
  5. If registration was successful, you’ll see a progress bar fill up over 45 seconds. Once it completes, power off the device which you registered, and then power it back on. You should now have internet access on that device.

Other Devices & What To Do if it Doesn’t Work

While a wide variety of devices will work on our network, some do not have a setup process that’s easy to describe. If you can’t seem to get your device registered using these instructions, bring your device by the Help Desk on the first floor of the Ralph W. Steen Library, located at the front desk of the LINC lab. We’ll be happy to help you get your device connected and ready to go.

Wireless Printer Setup Instructions

**The computer you use must be connected to SFA-WIRELESS**

1. Connect the printer to the SFA-PRINTERS network. This process varies from printer to printer, and if your printer can’t connect to a wireless network, it can’t be used wirelessly on campus.

2. Find the IP address of the printer. It should be 172.23.*.*, where the asterisks denote the unique part of the IP address. This information can usually be located within the printer menus (again, this process varies). Some printers will print a network status page upon connecting to a network, which should contain the IP address.

Windows

3. Click on the start button and select “Printers and Devices.” On Windows 8 and 10, open Control Panel by right-clicking the start button and selecting Control Panel, then select “Devices and Printers.”

4. Click the “Add a Printer” button near the top of the window.

5. Select “Add a Network Printer” if given the option.

6. Select that the printer you want isn’t listed.

7. Select Add a Printer using TCP/IP Address.

8. Type the IP address in the appropriate box and select Next.

9. Windows may then prompt you for drivers, which may already be installed.

Mac

3. Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen and select “System Preferences.”

4. Select Printers and Scanners

5. Click the “+” sign in the lower right of the window.

6. Click “IP” in the upper left.

7. Type the IP address in the box next to “Address,” making sure the type selected from the drop-down box is “IPP.”

Your printer should now print from this computer when this computer is connected to SFA-WIRELESS. Repeat this process for any other computers you wish to print from using this printer.
