Multi-Factor Authentication for VDI Access

Introduction

This guide will assist you with accessing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) - VMware Horizon - using multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Duo Security.

Before registering with Duo Security install the Duo Mobile app on your preferred mobile device. The app is available from the Apple App store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store. This guide will give you a step-by-step walkthrough on enrolling in Duo Security.

Note: There are multiple Duo apps - please install the Duo Mobile app with the green logo.  Duo Mobile app supports iOS 11.0 and greater & Android 7.0 and greater. 

Note: You cannot use your laptop or computer as the second authentication method.

 

Enroll, register, and activate MFA on your device

You only need to enroll for Duo Security once unless you change your device. 

  • If you need to add a new device, follow these steps.
  • If you have already enrolled continue with the steps below to access the VMWare Horizon VDI Clients.

Note: You need to have an active internet connection to complete these steps. 

 

Accessing VMWare Horizon (VDI)

Accessing VMWare Horizon (HTML Access)

To access VMWare Horizon using the HTML Client click the ‘VMWare Horizon HTML Access’ option.

Using either option will give you a login prompt. Use your mySFA credentials when prompted and click ‘Login’. You will receive a Duo push if you have a registered device in Duo Security or be asked for a passcode if you do not have a registered device. Once either the push or passcode have been entered you will be redirected to the VDI portal home page.

Note: If you receive a failed authentication or are not receiving either a Duo Push or prompt for a passcode, ensure you are enrolled in Duo Security. If you are still experiencing issues, contact the ITS Help Desk at 936.468.4357 or by visiting help.sfasu.edu.
